Spider Solitaire Game Modes

1 Suit Spider Solitaire (Beginner)

Played with only Spades. This is the best way to learn the Spider Solitaire rules. Since all cards are the same suit, you never have to worry about blocked moves due to suit mismatch.

2 Suit Spider Solitaire (Intermediate)

Typically played with Spades and Hearts. This mode introduces the core strategic conflict: you can stack a Spade on a Heart, but you cannot move them together.

4 Suit Spider Solitaire (Expert)

The authentic experience using all four suits (Spades, Hearts, Diamonds, Clubs). This is the true Spider Patience challenge that requires deep planning to win.

How to Play Spider Solitaire (Rules)

Objective

The goal is to assemble eight full sequences of cards in descending order (King down to Ace) of the same suit. Once a sequence is complete (e.g., King of Spades through Ace of Spades), it is automatically removed from the tableau. Clear the entire board to win.

Setup

  • Decks: Two standard 52-card decks (104 cards total).
  • Tableau: 54 cards are dealt into 10 columns. The top card is face-up.
  • Stock: The remaining 50 cards sit in the stock pile (bottom right), ready to be dealt in rows of ten.

Movement Rules

  • Building: You can place any card on another card that is one rank higher, regardless of suit (e.g., placing a 7♣ on an 8♥).
  • Moving Stacks: You can only move a group of cards if they are in a perfect descending sequence and share the same suit.
  • Empty Columns: You can move any single card or valid same-suit sequence into an empty column. (Tip: Empty columns are vital for winning!).
  • Dealing: Click the stock to deal a new row of cards. Note: You must have at least one card in every tableau column to deal.

Strategy Tips to Win

  • Focus on Empty Columns: An empty column is your most powerful asset. It allows you to temporary store cards and unstuck messy piles.
  • Build in Suit: Whenever possible, build sequences in the same suit. This keeps your stacks mobile.
  • Expose Hidden Cards: Prioritize moves that flip face-down cards. The more cards you see, the better your decisions.
  • Don't Rush the Stock: Only deal new cards when you have absolutely no other moves. Dealing covers your organized stacks with random cards.
