What is Spider Solitaire?

Spider is a two-deck solitaire game. The goal is to complete eight same-suit runs from King down to Ace. Cards may be stacked in descending rank regardless of suit, but only a continuous same-suit run can move together.

Choose a difficulty

1 Suit Spider

All cards count as one suit, so every correctly ordered descending run can be moved together. This is the clearest mode for learning.

2 Suit Spider

Usually played with Spades and Hearts. Mixed suits can be stacked, but must be separated before the cards can move as a group.

4 Suit Spider

Uses all four suits. Building movable same-suit runs takes more space and planning, making this the hardest mode.

Spider Solitaire rules

Setup and objective

• Two standard decks provide 104 cards.
• Deal 54 cards into ten columns; only each column's top card is face up.
• The first four columns contain six cards and the remaining six contain five.
• The other 50 cards form the stock for five additional rows.
• Complete and remove eight same-suit runs from King to Ace to win.

Moving cards

• Place a card on another card exactly one rank higher, regardless of suit.
• Move a group only when every card is in descending order and the same suit.
• Any single card or valid same-suit run can move into an empty column.
• A face-down card turns over when it becomes the top card in its column.

Dealing from the stock

Clicking the stock deals one new card to each of the ten columns. Every column must contain at least one card before a row can be dealt, so fill any empty column first.

Strategy tips

• Reveal hidden cards: more visible cards create more useful choices.
• Build in suit: same-suit runs remain movable.
• Create an empty column: space is essential for separating mixed suits.
• Delay the stock: make useful moves before another row covers every column.
• Protect long runs: avoid covering a movable run with another suit unless necessary.
