Double Klondike Solitaire Online

Double Klondike uses two decks, nine tableau columns, and eight foundations. The columns start with one through nine cards, with only their end cards face up. The remaining 59 cards form a draw-one stock. This version allows one stock pass, with no redeal.

Double Klondike rules: two copies and one stock pass

  • Tableau: build down one rank in alternating colors. Move an ordered face-up sequence together.
  • Empty columns: accept Kings or sequences beginning with Kings.
  • Stock and waste: turn one stock card at a time and play only the exposed waste top. Playing it uncovers the previous waste card.
  • Foundations: build eight separate piles from Ace to King by suit. Two decks supply two copies of every card and two complete foundations per suit.

Make better use of duplicate cards and the waste

These simplified positions illustrate decisions in this game; they are not your current deal.

1. Two identical cards still need separate foundation places

One Spade foundation already ends at the 2 of Spades, while another contains only an Ace of Spades. Your second 2 of Spades can go onto that second Ace. It cannot go onto the first 2: each foundation needs the next rank, not another copy of its current card.

In the tableau, either copy of a black Queen fits an exposed red King if the Queen and all cards below it form a valid alternating sequence. Compare what each move uncovers before choosing between the duplicates.

2. Choose which identical Queen to move

Two copies of the Queen of Clubs are exposed. Queen A covers a hidden card; Queen B is alone in its column. Either Queen can go onto the exposed King of Diamonds. Moving Queen A turns over a hidden card. Moving Queen B creates an empty column.

Suppose moving a face-up King of Spades and its ordered packet would uncover another hidden card. Moving Queen B first gives that King packet a destination, so a second move can reveal that card. Compare those two routes before choosing a Queen. Without a King ready to use it, the empty column cannot accept a lower card.

3. Release an older waste card without a redeal

The waste has a 3 of Diamonds beneath its exposed 7 of Clubs. An 8 of Hearts is exposed in the tableau, and a Diamond foundation ends at 2.

  1. Move the 7 of Clubs onto the 8 of Hearts. The earlier 3 of Diamonds becomes the waste top.
  2. Move the 3 of Diamonds onto the Diamond foundation.

This is how an earlier waste card can return to play during the single stock pass. Drawing another stock card instead puts a new obstacle above the 7. You can still work backward through the waste by playing its tops, but you cannot flip the whole pile over for another pass.

Choose access rather than interchangeable ranks

Prioritize access to hidden cards, especially in the longer columns. Moving an ordered packet that exposes a hidden card often gives you a new choice immediately. Moving a similar packet between already-open columns may only rearrange the same options.

Watch the waste before each draw. Once the stock has been turned, you cannot flip the waste over for another pass here. Playing its exposed card can still reveal an earlier one, so keep suitable tableau destinations available.

Common questions

Why does the empty stock not turn over again?

This Double Klondike implementation uses draw one with no stock redeal. You can continue moving tableau and waste cards, or use Undo to revisit a draw. Its stock rule differs from versions that recycle the waste.

Do I need to match a card to its original deck?

No. The two copies of a suit and rank follow identical rules. A 2 of Spades can go onto either Spade Ace foundation that is still waiting for a 2; there is no separate deck identity to track.

Can I change this game to draw three?

This Double Klondike page uses draw one. The Draw 1 and Draw 3 selector is on the main one-deck Klondike page. Changing the number of decks does not carry that selector or its settings into this game.

Selecting among duplicate cards

When two identical cards are visible, select the one in the intended column or waste pile and check its outline. The game does not choose between the copies for you. A valid packet must alternate colors all the way to its exposed end; two matching ranks in a row are not a movable sequence.

  • Click or tap a card, then its destination. For a packet, select the first card you want to carry. Select it again to cancel. The message below the board explains the current selection or move.
  • Undo reverses your last action. Hint highlights a legal action and describes it below the board; it does not calculate a complete winning route.
  • New starts a fresh shuffle. Daily starts this game's dated challenge. Both replace the current board.
  • Full Screen gives the board more room. On a narrow screen, scroll sideways inside the board to reach all its piles.

Play one-deck Klondike for seven columns and Draw 1 or Draw 3 choices. Compare Forty Thieves for two decks with same-suit, single-card moves, or Crescent for eight foundations that build in two directions.
