Golf Solitaire Online
Clear seven columns of five face-up cards by playing onto the waste. Only the exposed end card of each column is available. The deal starts with one waste card and 16 stock cards, so look for chains that clear several tableau cards between draws.
Golf rules: seven columns and no rank wrapping
- Play one rank higher or lower than the waste top. Suits and colors do not matter.
- Use exposed cards only: removing the end card of a column makes the card behind it available.
- Ace and King do not wrap: Ace connects only to 2; King connects only to Queen. In this version, a Queen can be played on a King.
- Stock: draw one card at a time, with no redeal. You win by emptying all seven columns, even if stock cards remain.
Three Golf choices that change your next move
These simplified positions illustrate decisions in this game; they are not your current deal.
1. Clear two cards from the same column
If another column ends in a 5, that is also a legal first play on the 6. Compare what lies behind the 5 before choosing. The useful move depends on the next exposed card, not only on the card you can remove now.
2. Compare both directions from the waste
This comparison concerns the cards shown. Another column might supply the missing 5 and make the downward route longer. Scan the other exposed ends before deciding; choosing the longest visible continuation is a useful starting point, not a guarantee of the best complete game.
3. A King can open the Queen that follows it
Suppose the waste is a Queen of Clubs and a column ends with a Queen of Hearts behind a King of Spades. In this version, you can clear both:
- Play the King of Spades onto the Queen of Clubs. This exposes the Queen of Hearts.
- Play the Queen of Hearts back onto the King. You can now continue with an available Jack or another King.
A King therefore does not always end a chain here. The important limit is that it cannot connect to an Ace. If the card behind that King had been an Ace instead of a Queen, it would remain blocked from play by the rank rule after being exposed.
Preserve connections between columns
Survey the ends of all seven columns before drawing. Because the cards are face up, you can inspect the cards behind each playable end and plan which rank will appear next.
An empty column stays empty: Golf has no moves between columns. Clearing one column does not create a storage space or an extra playable card. Try to preserve connections that reach the remaining columns, especially near Aces and Kings, which each have only one neighboring rank.
Common questions
Can I keep playing after the stock runs out?
Yes. An empty stock does not end a chain. Continue playing cards that are one rank away from the waste. If cards remain and none is playable, use Undo to revisit a choice or start a new game.
Can I move cards between tableau columns?
No. A tableau card goes onto the waste when its rank fits. You cannot rearrange columns or use an empty one as storage, even if that would make the next card easier to reach.
Can I play a card just because it is face up?
Only the exposed end card of a column is playable. The face-up cards behind it help you plan a route, but they must wait for the cards below them to leave.
Playing and reversing a chain
Click the exposed card to send it directly to the waste. Every play is separate: if you use Undo after a three-card chain, it restores the most recent card first. Continue undoing to revisit the original branch. Drawing from the stock changes your working rank without removing a tableau card.
- Click or tap an available card to play it onto the waste. Click the stock to turn a new waste card.
- Undo reverses your last action. Hint highlights a legal action and describes it below the board; it does not calculate a complete winning route.
- New starts a fresh shuffle. Daily starts this game's dated challenge. Both replace the current board.
- Full Screen gives the board more room. On a narrow screen, scroll sideways inside the board to reach all its piles.
