What Is Spider Solitaire?

Spider Solitaire is a spider solitaire card game played with two standard 52-card decks. Your goal is to build complete, same-suit sequences from King down to Ace. You can stack cards regardless of suit, but only perfectly ordered, same-suit runs can be moved together.

If you like classic Windows-style solitaire, Spider adds more depth, longer games, and more strategy.

  • Full screen: Play Spider Solitaire full screen for a clean, focused board.
  • Three difficulties: 1 suit, 2 suits, and 4 suits in one place.
  • Works everywhere: Smooth play on desktop, tablet, and mobile.

Spider Solitaire Game Modes

Pick a mode that matches your skill level and time:

1 Suit Spider Solitaire (Beginner)

The easiest version and the fastest way to learn the rules. With one suit, every descending sequence is movable once built.

2 Suit Spider Solitaire (Intermediate)

The most popular option. You can still build on any suit, but only same-suit runs move together, which makes planning and cleanup more important.

4 Suit Spider Solitaire (Expert)

The full classic game using all suits. This is the hardest version and rewards careful planning and patience.

How to Play Spider Solitaire (Complete Rules)

Objective

Build eight complete sequences from King to Ace in the same suit. Each completed sequence is removed from the tableau. Clear all cards to win.

Setup

  • Decks: Two standard 52-card decks (104 cards total).
  • Tableau: 54 cards are dealt into 10 columns. Only the top card of each column is face-up.
  • Stock: The remaining 50 cards are placed in the stock and dealt in rows of 10.
  • Foundations: Completed same-suit sequences are removed from play.

Building Rules (Tableau)

  • Build down by rank: Place any card on a card that is exactly one rank higher, regardless of suit (for example, place a 7 on an 8).
  • Turn over cards: When a face-down card becomes the top card of a column, flip it face-up.
  • Move a sequence: You can move a group of cards only if they are in perfect descending order and all in the same suit.
  • Use empty columns: Any single card or any valid same-suit sequence can move to an empty column.

Dealing Rules (Stock)

  • Deal a new row: Click the stock to deal 10 cards, one to each tableau column.
  • All columns must be filled: You cannot deal from the stock if any column is empty.

Winning

You win when all eight same-suit sequences are completed and removed, leaving no cards on the tableau.

Strategy Tips to Win

  • Create empty columns early: Space gives you flexibility to rearrange and unlock buried cards.
  • Build same-suit runs: Matching suits keep stacks movable and prevent dead ends.
  • Expose hidden cards: Prioritize moves that flip face-down cards to expand your options.
  • Delay the stock: Deal only when your best moves are done; new cards can block progress.
  • Plan ahead: Think about how a move affects your ability to move sequences after the next deal.
